Challenge

Dods Political Intelligence is the UK’s leading parliamentary and political intelligence service, trusted for its credible insights and well-connected consultants. However, their analysts faced a time-consuming challenge: manually transcribing UK and EU parliamentary sessions. This process often required hours of review, corrections, and verification, delaying delivery and leaving less time for in-depth analysis. Dods wanted a faster, more accurate, and more reliable way to capture and publish live parliamentary data.

Solution

Our team proposed developing an AI-powered real-time transcription and translation platform to monitor UK and EU parliamentary sessions.
The platform would automatically transcribe and translate live proceedings, while allowing human editors to review and adjust text as sessions unfolded. This eliminated the need for heavy post-session editing and improved overall confidence in the published data.

My role focused on shaping the user experience — ensuring the tool not only worked intelligently but also felt intuitive to those using it.
I led the user research and persona development, mapping out the daily workflow of Dods’ transcribers and analysts. From these insights, I created detailed user journeys and wireframes, turning complex technical requirements into a seamless, efficient interface.

Designing the Experience

Designing for real-time accuracy meant balancing speed, focus, and usability. The interface had to display live parliamentary video, time-stamped transcriptions, and editing tools, all within a single, easy-to-scan workspace. I iterated through multiple layouts to ensure the key actions (reviewing, editing, and syncing text) were always within reach, reducing cognitive load and minimising user fatigue during long sessions.

Results

The results of this transformation were significant:

Faster delivery: Live sessions could be reviewed and published within minutes of closing.

Greater accuracy: Automated transcription reduced common errors and inconsistencies.

More valuable insights: Analysts could spend more time interpreting political data rather than cleaning it.

A foundation for the future: The AI-driven framework laid the groundwork for new thematic analysis and intelligence services.
